Required College Prep Course of Study. For information about College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) requirements for students planning to enroll at the University of Georgia, see the current UGA Bulletin.

CPC Deficiency Requirements. Students admitted to the University in a “provisional admission” category (i.e. those who did not meet the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) requirements in the course areas of science, social science, and foreign language) will be required to complete a three- or four-semester-hour course within the area of deficiency in order to remove the CPC deficiency.

Registration Requirements for Deficiency-Removing Courses. While deficiencies in science, social science, and foreign language should be satisfied during the student’s first semester of enrollment, CPC deficiencies for beginning freshmen must be completed before the student has earned 30 semester hours of college-level credit. Non-transfer students who have earned 30 semester hours of college-level credit and who have not satisfied CPC deficiencies may not register for any college-level work unless they also register for the appropriate deficiency-removing course(s). Transfer students completing high school in Spring 1988 or later will be subject to CPC requirements unless they have completed 30 semester hours of transfer credit with a minimum 2.0 average.

Relationship to Core Curriculum, GPA, and Total Hours Earned. Deficiency-removing courses may not be used to satisfy Core Curriculum or degree program requirements. Grades earned in these courses, however, will be included in the student’s semester, cumulative, and overall grade point averages. Credit earned for these courses will be counted in the student’s total hours earned, total hours average, and total hours attempted, and will be used for classification and reporting purposes. Deficiency-removing courses will be identified on the student’s academic record as a course utilized to satisfy College Preparatory Curriculum requirements. Students who later find that a course used to satisfy CPC deficiencies will be required in their program of study may petition their academic dean for an approved course substitution.
