UGA Alumni

We are pleased to provide assistance to our UGA alums.  We know that some of you plan to return to UGA for additional majors or degrees and some of you may want to just take some additional courses.  And, of course, many of you will need copies of your UGA transcript.

This section, therefore, provides you with the following information:

If you are planning to work overseas, please be aware of the fact that many countries require verification of your degree.  Instead of a transcript, many countries prefer a diploma; however, the diploma (or transcript) must normally bear either an Apostille or the Great Seal which verifies the authenticity of the document.  Be sure to read about this under Replacing a UGA Diploma.

Confidentiality of Student Records: You may be wondering why this section is included for Former Students.  When you were enrolled at UGA, you were given the option of placing a Restriction on your student records.  This is part of a federal law called FERPA.  If you placed a Restriction on your records, that Restriction remains in place until you request that it be removed.  The request must be submitted in writing to our office and must contain your signature.  There is frequently confusion about what this Restriction does.  The bottom line is that if you placed a Restriction on your record and someone called us to verify your previous enrollment or whether or not you earned a degree, we would be unable to provide them with that information.  In fact, we could only respond with “We have no information available on that individual.”  As you can imagine, a potential employer does not want to hear that statement.  Some potential employers send us a form to complete and attach a signed release from the student.  Based on the signed release, we are then able to complete the form and confirm your enrollment and whether or not you received a degree.

If you placed a Restriction your records while you were a student, you might want to consider requesting that it be removed.  You just need to send us a letter requesting that it be removed.  We cannot accept this request via email as we need your signature.

Your letter should be mailed to:

Or, you may fax it to 706.583.8162
